Hydromulching is a method of revegetation where the seed and fertiliser is mixed in a slurry of organic matter and tackifiers, and sprayed out onto the prepared surface. The blend can contain either grass or tree and shrub species, or a combination of both; with the species selection depending on end requirements, soil type, climate, and many other factors. Turf species are also used as a cost effective means of establishing turf quality grass.
There are many methods of seeding but Lanyonscapes uses hydromulching on jobs where erosion protection and dust suppression is an important factor. Hydromulching also provides increased organic content for poor soils, moisture retention benefits, and a protective blanket for seeds in harsh conditions. The hydromulch is applied by powerful truck mounted pumps that are capable of a discharge distance up to 40m on level ground or further on slopes. In extreme situations the slurry is pumped through lay-flat hoses and can be applied very long distances from the truck. For this reason hydromulch is often used on areas that cannot be accessed by conventional equipment.
Lanyonscapes has used hydromulch effectively on jobs such as road and rail batters, dam walls, sub-divisions, mine site and quarry rehabilitation, large open drains, parks and sporting fields.
Application rates vary from job to job but it is understandable that some jobs require a heavier application rate than others because of factors such as the degree of erosion protection required. Other variables include additives such as bio-stimulants, fertilisers, and trace elements. Sometimes soil testing is required to determine exactly what will be required in the hydromulch blend.
Lanyonscapes has the expertise to advise on matters such as site preparation, soil samples, recommended application rates, species selection, and maintenance requirements. We recommend that you contact us in the early stages of your project so that costly mistakes can be avoided.
