Many erosion control products are used in conjunction with hydromulching and seeding. These include matting and blankets manufactured from both natural fibre and synthetics, and rock mattresses and gabions.

The most common areas where matting is used are steep erodable batters or open drains with high velocity water flows, with various matting manufactured for differing conditions and requirements. A common method of soil reinforcement is three dimensional matting placed about 25mm below the finished soil level. Hydromulch is then applied and as the grass establishes the roots grow through the matting resulting in a very stable cover able to withstand very severe water velocities.
